Most of us are guilty of giving in to the occasional “cheat meal” and many of us have taken it overboard. If you’ve been a victim of binge eating, don’t let that “food baby” discourage you from getting back on track. From drinking LOTS of water, sipping on green tea and upping your cardio, there are a variety of things you can do to rebound from binge eating.

Here’s a few:

  1. Drink water, and LOTS of it. Most of the bloat and weight gain associated with a cheat meal is a result of water retention due to high levels of sodium. Water will help you warm up your digestive system and flush out toxins you consumed the day before. Water will also help keep your appetite under control in case the junk food cravings continue. Aim to drink 1 liter of water first thing in the morning.
  2. Try a natural diuretic. Sipping on green tea or dandelion root tea can assist with detoxing your body and help curb your appetite. Aim for 3-4 cups after a cheat day.
  3. Exercise. Duh! This is probably a given but often times, people feel so “weighed down” from all the food they ate, they aren’t motivated to get active. However, exercise, specifically cardio is a great aid in getting rid of post cheat meal bloat as it helps with digestion and burns off some of the extra calories you ate.
  4. Live life and move on. You may thing you’re the only one, but nearly everyone has gone overboard binge eating. The key to moving forward is not dwelling on the past. Don’t beat yourself up. Instead, refocus and stick to a plan to get yourself back on track.
