As many of you know, I have embarked on my postpartum weight loss journey. At nine months pregnant, I tipped the scale at 167 pounds! By my daughter’s one month birthday (6.25.2011), I weighed 145 pounds. My 30 day goal is to lose (at least) 10 more pounds by her 2 month birthday on 7.25.2011. (My overall goal is to get down to 125 pounds)

While I’m on the grind, I’ll be posting my progress here. I’ll also be adding photos, videos and various fitness tips that are helping me achieve my goals. Today’s tip is all about the power of H2O!

Question: Does drinking ICE WATER burn calories?

According to Discovery Health & Fitness experts worldwide, the answer is YES (70 “freebie” calories on average per day!)

Let’s say you adhere to the “eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day” nutritional recommendation. In 64 ounces of water, there are 1,892.72 grams. So to warm up all that water in the course of a day, your body burns 70,030 calories, or 70 Calories. And over time, that 70 Calories a day adds up. So, while you definitely shouldn’t depend on ice water consumption to replace exercise or a healthy diet, drinking cold water instead of warm water does, in fact, burn some extra Calories!
