My Credit Repair Post #1 (Obtaining a copy of your Credit Report)
*Note: the contents within this post are the sole opinion of Maria More and are not intended to serve as expert/professional advice on Credit Repair. This is my personal testimony and recommended tips to help you fix your credit based on my personal experiences.
Due to High Demand (via Twitter) I will be posting Credit Repair tips that assisted me in gaining loan approval for my first home.
Step 1) Order a copy of your Credit Report – You cannot “fix” it until you have a clear “snapshot” of anything on your report that may hurt your ability to obtain credit.
Step 2) Prioritize – One BIG mistake that people make is contacting all of their creditors listed on the report or not paying off debts based on “priority.” The accounts that you should specifically focus on are those (if any) listed in the “collection accounts” section. Collection accounts are very important to clear up because it is very unlikely that a creditor will extend credit to you if you have a debt in “collection” status.
Once you identify the “Collection Accounts” review the accounts that were most recently updated. Whatever you do , DO NOT contact the creditors unless (1) you plan to dispute the bill (2) you acknowledge the bill and are ready to “settle” or pay off the account.
I will post another entry next week, in the meantime, feel free to post your questions and I will be sure to have them answered on my next entry.
